There was a weather front coming so I had to make a decision. I could either get up at 0 dark 30 and get underway, or sit in Rocky Bay for another couple of days.
Since my goal was to explore Cordova Alaska it was time to skedaddle.

I was under way before 5:00 AM and had a nice early morning cup of Kona Coffee to greet the sunrise. Here is my route for this leg. Rocky Bay to Cordova Alaska. The distance is about 50 Nautical Miles

It didn't take long to see my first taste of the southerly winds. Crossing Hinchinbrook entrance the wind was already blowing 10-15 knots, but fortunately the beam seas hadn't had time to build and there was only 10 miles or so of southern exposure. Then I was back in smooth protected waters, and had a nice calm journey.

When approaching Cordova it is tempting to take a shortcut through one of the channels. From the chart the western channel is marked, but I did not like the shoaling so I took the safe route and went around.

Then I got my first look at the Red Salmon capitol of the world, Cordova Alaska. It's hard to tell from the photo, but that is the famous Copper River Seafoods plant. When the first Red Salmon of the year are caught, they air cargo them to Seattle and they are served that evening at the finest seafood establishments.

Coming into the harbor I was worried. Docking single handed can either be really easy, or it can be a real bear. It all depends on the wind. Today was my lucky day. The transient float is perpendicular to the wind which was blowing out of the east. All I had to do was to get my boat next to the dock and the wind did the work for me.

I am all tied up here in Cordova, and will spend the next couple days exploring.
